Small Student-Teacher Ratio

At Zoie Avenue we have a small student-teacher ratio to ensure maximum interaction between your child and the teacher, as well as to ensure quality instruction in a congenial and relaxed classroom environment.

My understanding of a teacher's role is to guide, providing access to information rather than acting as the primary source of information, the students' search for knowledge is met as they learn to find answers to their questions. For students to construct knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in authentic situations. Providing students access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson being studied creates an opportunity for individual discovery and construction of knowledge to occur.

Equally important to self-discovery is having the opportunity to study things that are meaningful and relevant to one's life and interests. Developing a curriculum around student interests fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn. One way to take learning in a direction relevant to student interest is to invite student dialogue about the lessons and units of study. Given the opportunity for input, students generate ideas and set goals that make for much richer activities than I could have created or imagined myself. When students have ownership in the curriculum, they are motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to reach their goals.

Helping students to develop a deep love and respect for themselves, others, and their environment occurs through an open sharing of ideas and a sensible approach to discipline. When the voice of each student is heard, and environment evolves where students feel free to express themselves. Class meetings are one way to encourage such dialogue. I believe children have greater respect for their teachers, their peers, and the lessons presented when they feel safe and sure of what is expected of them. In setting fair and consistent rules initially and stating the importance of every activity, students are shown respect for their presence and time. In turn they learn to respect themselves, others, and their environment.

For myself, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.

作為一位老師，我的角色是要給予學生一個適當的引導，帶領他們邁向知識的通道，讓他們在學習知識的過程中，自行發掘及尋求答案，而不只僅僅提供資料。為了讓學生建立知識，他們需要不斷實習及一些自我探求的機會，讓他們認識自己。而在這不斷求知、尋找答案及自我探索的過程中，可以啟發他們的思維，引領他們運用知識，達到學以致用。

而學習的過程中，讓他們學到適合自己及可以一生受用的事物也是相當重要的。要啟發學生推動自我而對學習產生高度興趣，其中一個方法是在課程設計中，徵詢學生的意見，邀請其參與課程之設計，配合他們的喜好和定下目標。這樣不僅能豐富課程的題材及活動，而且學生亦因此會更投入其自己有份參與設計之課程。

透過溝通及意見分享，協助學生建立對自己，別人及環境的愛和尊重。在課堂中，我會鼓勵他們表達自己，並且聽取每個小朋友之意見，當他們明白及感受到這裡是可自由表達自我，並有人願意聆聽及接納他們之意見的地方時，他們亦同時學懂尊重其他人的意見。透過公平一致的規則下，可以令小朋友學懂尊重自己，尊重別人和愛護環境的道理。

對我而言，在教學同時可以帶給我不斷學習和成長的機會。作為一位老師，我希望能將愛灌輸給每一位學生，讓他們感受我對教學的熱誠，提升他們的學習興趣。
在今天這個充滿競爭的社會，孩子們不僅純粹的接受教育，還要懂得他們、關心他們個別之需要和感受，我將全力以赴，用愛心教導每一位學生。

Art is about fabulous creations. Children should let their imagination roam wild. As an instructor, I believe that mastering skills is just as important as fun and imaginative creations - something each child is entitled to. My role is a guide to children, allowing them the necessary space and environment to invent and construct new ideas from their daily experiences and interactions.

In fact, I believe different children use different ways to express themselves. Some children who are unable to articulate themselves through words may choose to use art as an alternative channel to express their thoughts and feelings.

Through art, imagination, creativity, observation, and understanding becomes intelligence. Children gain confidence and become more motivated to make progress in all aspects of their life.

藝術是充滿創意的。小朋友的創造力和想像力更如天馬行空。作為一位老師我除了著重技巧，也還非常重視創意，絕對不會扼殺他們的發展和創作思維。我的角色是要給予他們一個適當的引導，給予小朋友足夠的空間發揮創意，訓練他們透過觀察再用自己的方式表達出來。

事實上，繪畫是小朋友表達自己內心的一種方式。有時小朋友不擅長用言語表達，但透過繪畫可以看到他們的內心世界，同時也能抒發他們的情緒和感受。

繪畫的過程中可以幫助小朋友提升想像力、創造力、觀察力、理解力和組織能力，加強訓練頭腦及手眼並用，使思維更集中同時增強自信及創作能力，為他們帶來滿足感。
